In the hospital I have given birth in if you plan to breastfeed and for example you are not able to, they are happy to provide formula (pre made bottles) If you plan to bottle feed and you don’t bring it, they would ask you to bring some in. Of course if you are not able to get in for whatever reason let’s say, they will have to provide it :)
Thanks ladies I’ll plan to take my own then and just see how I feel at the time x
They put the baby straight on you and mine fed straight away and it was the best feeling in the world. If you decide you want to I wouldn’t even take formula as it might be too temping to use. They would of course provide it if there are any issues x
I had an emergency c section so they didn't put my daughter on me straight away. When we got to the recovery room they asked me if I wanted to breast feed and I said yes. So they put her on me and she latched. Lactation consultant came round 2 hours later to check on us. She then wouldn't latch they taught me how to hand express and a day later gave me nipple shields to help 8 hours after she was born they pushed formula onto me because she struggled to latch still (they were pushing it on all the new mums breast feeding) I had premade formula in my bag just incase which we used. They provided bottles
Sounds pretty funny but My midwife hand expressed me 😂 as my son wouldn’t latch on, it was literally the smallest syringe amount every few hours for the first 48hrs and then they gave me the electric pump to express. I couldn’t express enough so also bottle fed and they provided me with the small ready made formula which come with teets so no bottle needed. I was in hospital for 2 weeks so after a few days I did buy my own formula but they still supplied me quite a bit tbf if I ran out
I did within an hour of giving birth, although my baby didn't latch properly, so the midwife gave her some formula that the hospital provided. Although I did take a pack of premade formula with me as I wasn't fully decided on breastfeeding yet, and I was ok with it if it didn't work out, which it didn't.
We put my son on my chest for 30 minutes and when he woke up it was straight to the breast
Yes I had my baby and she was immediately put on my chest. It was immediately on my skin, then cord clamped. Dad put first nappy on and she was immediately brought over and put on my boob. Best feeling in the world ever. If you plan to breastfeed they will support you with it and you can also push for lactation consultant support on the postnatal ward. You can also stay longer for support with feeding if breastfeeding. If there are issues they will provide ready made bottles. If you DON'T plan to breastfeed then you need to take formula with you.
You can always take in your collostrum that you manage to harvest too and then if any issues give that: needs to be put in the freezer straight away (I left it in the car by accident so wasted it )
my baby girl was put on my straight away and once we were both settled and i was stitched, she nursed on me, so definitely within the first hour. you can bring your own formula, but the hospital will have some regardless❤️
