Induction advise

This is my first pregnancy, and until yesterday all had been going well! I had my 36 week midwife appointment and my blood pressure was slightly elevated, I got sent to hospital and it obviously was then higher there. I got given some blood pressure meds and that brought it right down, so I’m now on those, but the doctors have requested I have induction at 38 weeks, potentially 37 weeks if the meds don’t keep the blood pressure lower. I’ve had a bereavement a couple of weeks ago so I did wonder if the blood pressure could be related to that. I really didn’t want induction, but understand the risks and know it’s safer for baby. But I’ve only heard horror stories from others about induction so hoping to hear maybe something more positive?

I can’t offer any advice as I’m a first time mum xx however don’t let them pressure you into anything you don’t want my best friend is a midwife and has said to me ( my baby is on the 99th centile) to not let them bully me into a induction or C-section and advocate. I’ve asked for sweeps now and I’ve been booked for an induction at 39/40 weeks I personally don’t mind induction I know there not the easy way out but I don’t want an elective C-section. Do you have a supportive midwife maybe reach out to her xx hopefully some ladies will be able to share their positive experiences but in the meantime try to remain as calm as possible and relax as well I know it’s hard xx

I was induced with my third pregnancy . As I was already 3cm dilated they didn't need to soften my cervix and just put me on a drip and everything went smoothly and I had a very fast labour and my baby girl was born within 2 hrs and it was nicest labour exsperience . Fingers crossed all goes smoothly for you

Not helping with induction but I’ve also suddenly got high BP as of 32 weeks and was worried the medicine wouldn’t keep it down and I would need to give birth early but two weeks later the drugs seem to be doing their job and the doctors are happy for now! So please don’t worry it doesn’t necessarily mean it will progress. My only advice is try not to think about it (yeah easier said than done) and don’t take your BP at home (unless advised to by the doctors)

Hello, I just gave birth to my baby girl on Sunday. I was booked in to be induced and I had three sweeps beforehand which I think maybe got me to the 2cm, they then broke my waters and the contractions started coming quick and fast, baby was here within 3 hours of my waters being broken, I honestly had the best experience.

@Jess what gestation were you induced :) xx

I was induced with my first baby. It was very long but it is different for everyone. I was exhausted so I got the epidural. I want to avoid it if I can this time but at the same time it hasn’t put me off, if I need it again then I’ll have it.

@Emily they told me that even if it’s controlled and BP remains normal with ends they would want induction at 37-39 weeks, earlier if the medication doesn’t work. I’m not sure if each hospital just has a different policy?
