We started using a dummy with our little one. As soon as we noticed the first yawn we give him his dummy and rock him then he's off to sleep! He wouldn't do this before. We've not mastered being able to put him down, he loves a contact nap 🙈
I use to take him for a walk and he slept in his pram. Also wrap him around me helped and put him in the Moses basket helped too. Also make sure the room is dark and you have a white noise machine. Developing a bedtime routine also a good idea at this age x
He didn’t like the dummy and kept spitting it out but I’ve recently bought a different one so will retry that. He does go to sleep in the pram on a walk but can’t always go out. Also the only dark place is the bedroom so would have to stay upstairs with him while he napped and can’t always do that due to visitors etc. He can sleep with light so need to try get him to nap downstairs. What other tired cues can i look out for?
@Sophie I would suggest a baby carrier so you have hands free but baby can sleep close to you cos they don't know you are separate people yet. I personally wouldn't use dark rooms for daytime sleep cos it'll mean they always need that and limit being able to nap on the go. Don't wait for eye rubbing or yawning cos they are the last sign of being tired and means they already want to be asleep. First signs are vacant staring, no interest in much, red eyebrows. My daughter wasn't a dummy fan initially but really took to the tommee tippee closer to nature.
@Sophie my little boy will typically be yawning, putting his hand in his mouth or rubbing his eyes. Every baby is different though so you could just try it at different times and see what works best. He's typically tired after a feed then some awake time so I just keep an eye on the times, so it's usually between 1-2 hours (including feed and awake time) but can vary! We don't use a dark room either for the same reason and haven't developed a night time routine either. Just all trial and error I think still but the health visitor may be able to give some advice as well if you're worried ☺️ You'll be doing a fab job! X
Thanks guys! I think my new dummy is the closer to nature one so going to be trying that out! He does tend to do a vacant stare and gets fussy so assuming those are signs! X
@Sophie yes I would say so
Does he have a comforter or anything? Also maybe white noise? AN item of your clothing with your scent so he can smell you etc z
