None personally, get it in your freezer at home and you can use it then! If you’re producing colostrum now, you’ll be fine in the hospital breast feeding
@Jess I think it's more in case of if you're out of action for whatever reason, or baby is struggling to latch, then you can use the harvested colostrum. With my first, I took everything I had but it was only 6 or 7ml in total. It came home with us and I just found all of it at the bottom of my freezer after 3 years 🙈 I'd say a few syringes as an "insurance policy" and then partner can go back for more if needed! X
Fionidi and Paulina are right. Just take a few. I took 4 and we were so tired upon discharge that we left them there. Binned. Gutted.
@Paulina personally was a waste of time for me with my first. Never got used, and I pumped in hospital to help my milk come in and by 2nd day I pumped 50ml from one breast. My hospital gave a pump for free if you needed it
You can use it well after that first week! It's crammed full of antibodies. Keep it and use it if they're sick. You worked hard for it!
@Jess it was a waste of time for me as well (in a sense that I never used it). *But*, say I was unconscious due to some complications, or baby was too sleepy to feed I'd rather have something there to help us out! So I'm definitely taking some with me this time, although atm I only have 2ml... better than nothing I guess
@Paulina my first ended up in NICU as they thought she had sepsis, so my first batch would have been brilliant but they didn’t store it properly and it went to waste. Very useful to have, just going to have to insist it’s stored correctly this time!
First baby so no idea on what I should take but I've made a decent stash and definitely don't want any of it wasted. I'm planning on taking maybe 4-6ml and leaving the rest at home. If I need more my partner can always go home and get some. I'm also gonna make sure that he puts it in the fridge or freezer when we get there so we don't have to rely on the midwives. Sidenote - there's the potential my baby will have to go NICU hence why I'm taking it
