Sleep training!

Any advice on sleep training?! My boy just turned 4 months on the 18th of this month and we’re in his sleep regression era at this point. And hes only staying asleep for like 1 hour to 1.5 hours While tackling that, we’re also trying to sleep train him. He’s still in the bedside bassinet so at this point we’re just setting him in there while gently patting and shushing him until he falls asleep. It usually takes anywhere from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. He’s used to being patted and shushed to sleep on my chest, so setting him in the bassinet and encouraging him to fall asleep on a different “surface” has been such a challenge. I just want to know what everyone else has tried. We’re not doing the cry it out method obviously lol and the pediatrician suggested to continue what we’ve been doing and gradually take away the pats and shush’s. All in all I’d just like to know everyone else’s suggestions🫶🏾

We attempted sleep training but once the sleep regression hit, we decided to wait until that passes to resume sleep training. Our Ped told us you can sleep train during a sleep regression but it’s very taxing and that sometimes for your own sanity it’s better to let it pass before trying again. This sleep regression is their brain trying to hard wire the different sleep cycles so their brain doesn’t want to sleep much anyways because of this. I have found that white noise machines help to keep them asleep during the sleep cycle transitions

It’s nearly impossible to sleep train while they are changing their sleep pattern, I’ve done everything I knew with both my 4 year old and 4 month old. They have their own clock. I will say switching to baby food and a warm bath at night has helped keep her asleep once she’s down. But that’s after a few hours of her wanting to party lol.

Here for comments because I also have a fresh fourth month old boy - who just seems to be fighting sleep at every corner ! Also not a fan of crying it out sis so I get ya. I was also suggested the gradually dial back but increase the feedings in the day time to aid in alertness so ultimately he’ll begin sleeping longer by night fall

I would just suggest giving your baby what they need to fall asleep. An hour to fall asleep is kinda long imo. My lg is 5 months in a few days and is nursed and rocked to sleep every nap and bedtime. And gentle transfer to the crib. Have you had issues with this that caused you to use this method?? If its their reflexes (because you’ve dropped the swaddle) I recently got the merlin sleep suit and OMG game changer lol so highly suggest if your struggling with the transfer after rocking to sleep because babies getting startled.
