When to give in or keep disciplining
My son (3) had asked for orange juice and it was about 8:15 PM. He had about 15 more mins left til bed time. Last time we went to the dentist, they advised me no juice or sugary foods before bed as it causes cavities so I've been practicing. That, and I know my son gets a bit more hyper after drinking or eating anything with sugar, where it's ice cream or fruit. I said no Aiden, it's almost bed time, you can have it tomorrow. Idk if it was the second or third no for him that he didn't get what he wanted but he raised his voice and yelled at me. Kind of a surprise that shocked me really. On one hand I should've known to stop whatever I was doing and talk to him, that was my bad. But the moment I said Aiden, don't yell, he kept yelling louder to the point I said that's it. You're going to the room, he put off resistance and defiance until I was closer to the room and he said I'm sorry Mommy I'll behave. At that point idk if I should've gone through with it or gave into it thinking he learned his lesson. But I went ahead and gave him a time out. My question is, when kids say that, is it manipulation tactic only catered to Moms lol and if so, should I still continue to discipline? I need some advice. Thank you!

agree with Yen! but to avoid it, maybe it will work maybe not, but try offering water instead of saying no. try saying, oh we can have some water, do you want water instead? If he still wants oj then going into explaining that oj at night can lead to tooth pain and that's no fun

Aww what a sweet child. Yes you still have to carry out the discipline. We love our babies and our hearts melt when they apologize, but in the real world, they can’t act up and get away with it for apologizing. In the real world, apologizing might get you a leaner sentence in the court room, but you’re still going to jail. Consequences come to people even when they are sorry, and our kids need to learn that at home first to deter them from doing it again. You’re doing great mama.
