What do you think about my son's name?

So when we named our son and realised we had a slightly different taste in names to most. We like names that are older but didnt want something too unusual. I had hoped he may meet others with his name in the future but not so common there are several in a class like I experienced at school. We called our son Obediah (Obi for short). We both came to the name separately but agreed to wait until he was born to see if he looked like his name as much as he felt like it in pregnancy. We liked his name for the meaning and I grew up in a reglious family so the name Obediah was common to me. He's such a sweet natured little boy, full of curiosity and calm and really suits his name. So my question is, what are your thoughts on the name? Do you think it's too unusual?

@Charlotte thanks. We do refer to him as both, but Obi suits him a little more right now that he's just a baby. I can't say I've met another Obi yet but given the star wars reference I'm sure there will be some somewhere 🤣 It used to be a popular name in victorian times.

I LOVE it! I love old fashioned names and this is such a great one. And a cute nickname too!

I just think of it as a very very old name. I have a few of them in my family tree. I don’t think it’s that unusual since Jedediah is still somewhat in use, but people might have trouble spelling it when hearing it.

@Leah yeah I did think about the spelling especially given there are 2 variations, but hopefully people can sound it out phonetically

@Val bless her! Perhaps it will catch on 🤣

I have never heard this name before but I really like it. I don’t think it’s too unusual. And it seems easy enough to pronounce
