Medical

So I had to quit my job after my mat leave because daycare waitlists so I no longer have medical but I really need to go to the dentist and get new glasses. My bf was going to put me on his medical but we don’t want to claim common law yet because of my only income is my child benefit taxes and we can’t afford for that to go down. We’re living with my mom but he uses his aunts address for everything. I know we should claim and as soon as i’m working full time again we plan on it but I was wondering if anyone has been out on their partners medical and not have their child benefits go down? Nova Scotia is where we’re at so any input from NS moms would be best but any information or experience would be great!

It's gonna depend on how much he makes as to If it'll stay the same or go down. You may get assessed depending on when you become commonlaw but definitely do it sooner then later.

Also I try and find dentists who allow credit and once you get an eye exam done order your glasses online! That's what I'm doing

@Elizabeth I know you have to claim common law after a year and 2 months ago was a year so i’m not super worried about it just yet, hopefully he gets into a daycare at come september and we can then. But the glasses thing is a good idea! Where do you order from?

Me and my husband have been living together for over a year. I claim I’m single on my taxes but with my work insurance I claim we’re common law so he can access benefits. I have yet to see any tax implications as a result. I get the same CCB and other benefits as before. I’m based in Ontario so it may be different.

Zennies have been the cheapest I found so far for frames but I feel that alot

I think you can apply for dental through your cra account.

Yes you can apply for dental if you qualify with your income and your child’s age
