Insurance

I was just looking online to see if my insurance covers midwife services when I came across a few pamphlets recommending pregnant women notify their insurance of their pregnancy. It’s not super clear but it almost sounds like you have to notify them or you might lose coverage… I have been going to my OB, scans, check-ups…never notified insurance. Could I lose my coverage if I don’t call my insurance to let them know? Seems crazy.

Anthem Blue Cross

I have BCBS and I never had to notify. I’ve never heard that before but I also never checked lol

Has insurance been covering your appointments? If they were going to drop you, I think they'd do it as soon as they got the first bill. Blue Cross has an incentive program so you can get some freebies by notifying them of your pregnancy. I think I got a water bottle and little journal, plus info on getting my breast pump. I did it super late because I kept forgetting. 😂

I had that same insurance for my first pregnancy. If you notify them they will give you an app you can download and there will be a nurse on call for you who will randomly txt you through the app asking if you have any questions and you can message her at any time with any concerns. But you don’t have to notify them. If you don’t you just won’t get that extra perk

Phew! Thanks, everyone. I was starting to get pretty anxious about it! Sounds like we’re fine, but I will let them know just to be 100% safe. 🙏

@Courtney did you call directly or was it something online you did?

@Nay My Blue Cross insurance is through the Federal Employees program. There's a website and an app. I filled it out on the website.

@Courtney thanks!
