Traveling with milk

Has anyone tried to go through TSA with a cooler full of milk? How did it go? How much were you bringing?

Are you planning on coming through with it thawed or frozen? Frozen is no real extra check at all, they’ll look at it and send you on your way. Thawed or freshly expressed, if over 3 oz and flags they’ll put the bottle or container in a machine. Sometimes it clears then, other times it doesn’t. If it doesn’t clear they will do a vapor test so they’ll open the container and put a strip over it. Kindly ask for fresh gloves and to hold the lid so they aren’t putting it on their table. Highly recommend having a package of pump wipes in your cooler so either way you can wipe down your bottles.

I have! I had taken it frozen, but by the time it got checked, it was a little slushy. But they cleared me. I was carrying around 60oz. It depends on the agents I guess. They did check my freshly expressed milk with a strip. All the bottles (I had about 3, exclusively pumped for my daughter).

Any suggestions on how to keep milk frozen for longer (about 4 hours)?

I used medela freezer packs and well insulated bag. Or a container like this if you have loads of milk https://www.target.com/p/hardside-cooler-12-cans-10qt-red-sun-squad-8482/-/A-89542319 I also packed ice and salt in ziplock bags and put it on top of all the milk. Just before I went through TSA, I threw out the melted ice packs. Pack it tight - less room for air. While on flight, I requested for ice in ziplock bags. I kept stuffing new ice bags every 1-2hr. I traveled through Singapore airlines and the air hostesses are usually super helpful, it depends on the carrier I guess.

I just flew with milk for the first time Thursday morning! It was thawed and they didn’t even check it. It went through the belt and that was it. It was around 74 oz. I told them that the cooler bag had milk in it and that was it 🤷🏽‍♀️ i was surprised
