Missing my wine a bit too much?

I’m 15 weeks and 4 days pregnant and I’ve found not being able to have a glass of wine to relax and unwind or just as a social thing at family dinners pretty tough. I am a big wine lover and would have a glass or two most evenings before getting pregnant! I’m gradually getting used to it but the first month was horrible. I feel bad for moaning about this as having a baby is the most beautiful and exciting thing to happen and I don’t feel like I can complain about not being able to have a drink. Any other first time mum to be’s experiencing the same?!

I’d like to know if you were still drinking before you found out you were pregnant or was it planned?

This was me with my second pregnancy but with any alcohol in general 😂😂😂 I did get used to it in the end but it was tough. With me it was mostly beer so I used to get non alcoholic beer but wine is tough as some are disgusting. I liked freixenet 0% though xx

Alcohol frees are just not worth wasting money on too! It gets easier

@Miiimiii this was a total suprise pregnancy, we weren’t actively trying just yet (I was actually taking the pill albeit maybe not as well as I should have been 😂) so yes, I was drinking up until I found out but stopped as soon as I had suspicions I might be.

I did feel like this at first but honestly it did phase out in my 2nd trimester! Is there anything you can replace it with? Probs not the healthiest but my replacement was Pepsi max and chocolate 😂

I found it really hard too, you’re not alone xx

@Ebony Rose it is tough, especially once the sun comes out and everyone around me is having a cold glass of rose or a beer. YES! non alcoholic wine is grim, but I do like the 0% freixenet! Xx

@Hannah agreed 😂 I’m just drinking a load of shloer/grape juice instead lol x

@Amber really tough!! Luckily our summer this year has been shite🙈 I was lucky with both my pregnancies, one born June one March 😂😂 I was pregnant both times during Christmas but New Year’s Eve was tougher!😅

Yes I’m pregnant with my second and feel like this a lot as everyone around me is always drinking, however I get a bottle of alcohol free wine or nozeco I tend to add a dash of lemonade with the wines as they can taste a bit funny.

@Amber exactly my story both times😂😂😂😂 although I did have suspicions but both times had one blow out before I tested just incase🙈🍻🍻🍻

@Ebony Rose you’re a girl after my own heart 😂😂 but yes the final blow out I missed out on unfortunately hahaha! 🤣 xx

I felt the same lass, I’d only have one glass of wine a night with dinner to chill out with, maybe two on the weekends and I found it hard too. But don’t worry about it being an issue or anything - it gets easier and then you don’t miss it. I would have those dash drinks or bitter tonic water drinks instead like the pink peppercorn fever tree ones or something. Really cold and add a splash of sipsmith, I found that added a nice flavour. But I realised it was actually just sitting down and switching off watching trash tv (usually a bag of crisps too 😂) at the end of a night that was making me feel relaxed, not necessarily the wine. Nosecco is also really nice 👍 there are some apple cider drinks in waitrose which are in tins and supposed to be a wine alternative and I liked those. But you’ll get there and well done for voicing it :) xx

I’m on my way to a family holiday (my family are big drinkers) and none of them know I’m pregnant yet. Wish me luck 🤣🥲

@Georgia this is how I had to announce, my family are HUGE drinkers and if I said no to a drink all hell broke loose and they knew🙈 saying you’re hungover only works once😂😂😂

@Emily thank you so much! I’ll give those drinks a try that’s for sure 🥰 x

@Georgia good luck girl 😂🙏 that would have caught me out straight away lol xx

Not being able to have a wine was the single hardest thing in pregnancy for me, I CRAVED it every single day, sometimes at 9am 🤣. I wasn't even that much of a big drinker before lol. I did loose a lot of weight though and was back to pre-pregnancy weight within 2 days of giving birth, I feel that was down to no wine 🤣

@Ebony Rose @Amber luckily were telling them whilst we’re there but it’s gonna be hard for me 🤣 x

I had really bad morning sickness all the way through my pregnancy, so I didn't really miss drinking, which would have just added to the problem 🤢

Nosecco is really nice. I did once have a glass of wine while pregnant but it was that or my pregnancy anger would have convinced me to do something I would have regretted. So I thought this actually less harmful. It calmed my head and I managed go the rest of the pregnancy without needing the calming affects

I drank AF rosé but only because I liked the taste it was something my body was literally craving for this fruity freshness! Annoying it costs the same as an alcoholic wine so I wouldn’t drink it much xx

Im the same hun but this is my 3rd time being pregnant. The other 2 times wernt as hard as this one lol. We told family at xmas time an we always have xmas meet ups at the local pub an drink round familys homes etc… xmas was a struggle even birthdays lately lol im due 3rd aug least i can enjoy xmas this year lol an after aug. Hang in there hun it soon come quick. I do like my wine aswell an cocktails 🍸… i havent touched no alcohol drinks iv had the odd alcohol free gin an alcohol free kopperberg drinks , when are u due? Xx

An congratulations on pregnancy 🤰 xxx

I have to admit I had to stop my partner from drinking wine around me because I was constantly stealing his glass just to sniff it and the temptation yo have a taste just to see if I liked it was too strong. 🙃

@Helen I’ll be honest I’ve been the same. I’ve got two under two years apart and pregnant with my third (big surprise as was on contraception) and have been solo parenting a lot. I’ve had a glass of wine spritzer once a week or so when super stressed but will stop now I’m about 12 weeks. I’ve done a lot of research into it to help ease the guilt and feel better knowing some people don’t even know they are pregnant till past 12 weeks anyway! As long as you don’t binge drink or go over your weekly units every week apparently the harm is minimal. They’ve done studies in France and denmark.
