Partner parental leave

Just wondering how long people’s partners are taking off work? My husband hasn’t spoken to his work properly about it yet and it’s stressing me out a little at this stage. We have no local family support either…

Mine is taking 4 weeks. We have no local support as well.

At this stage my partner is taking 2 weeks. However depending on recovery etc he may extend. We’re originally from overseas, so my parents are coming out a few weeks after my due date, so if my husband decides to go back to work after the 2 weeks, l’ll still have the support of my parents who will be here for 3 months. We are very lucky!

Husband is taking 3 weeks of annual/sick leave. He won’t get any specific leave from work or government. We also have local support

We applied for the paid parental leave which is just minimum wage but gives us up to 5 months off. I work from home so I opted to have my husband take most of it. It's government mandated so work can't stop him from taking it lol

@Carolyn wish I had the work from home flexibility! I’m taking 9 months off myself with 20 weeks of the government leave going to me and then the last few months I won’t have anything coming in as work doesn’t offer any paid leave.

@Tess you should get 2 weeks from the government I would have thought? Because you can’t get the full 110 days yourself?

Thanks for your replies - makes me feel like most are doing something similar as my husband is thinking of taking 2 weeks leave covered by the government and then a week of annual leave and then possibly asking for more working from home flexibility after that (currently does 2 days a week at home) or extending if I have a C-section for example. Wish he would sort it already though so we have some sort of plan!!

I have heard the more the better but my husband is likely taking 4 weeks from the due date

Mine hasn’t put his in either yet, starting to stress me out to. He will take the 2ish weeks from government and still debating if he will take an extra week from work or not as he will have a week off when baby is around 3 months old (November) then will need to save some leave for over Christmas to cover for when his work shuts

@Kala glad to hear someone is in the same boat- what is it with men and their lack of urgency with this?!!

No idea but I wonder if cause they aren’t carrying the baby they don’t see the urgency in needing to rush to put the leave in

Mine gets 12 weeks through his work
