Baby name meaning

I don’t know if I’m overthinking or not, but my baby girl is due in November and my partner and I have been thinking up names. We’re pretty set on Winona as a first name, with Winnie as a nickname. What I’m struggling with is middle names. At first and up until last week I was sure her name would be Winona Mae, because is flows well/is cute/was my great grandmother’s name. But I looked up the meaning last week and saw that it means “bitter”. My first thought was that I have been going to therapy to release bitterness, I’m not sure that I’d want to name my daughter that. But it still is so cute. 😅 I don’t know, maybe I’m being silly. But I definitely want my kids names to mean good things, like my son Phoenix Wilder. Thoughts?

I can completely relate to this! You’re not overthinking this but I would do what your heart is telling you the most. If the meaning isn’t really that big a deal stick with it. I was madly in love with the name Rue for my daughter until I found out it means “regret”. I couldn’t bring myself to use it

I think Winona Mae is so sweet and goes with your son's name perfectly! Personally name meanings are not the reason I choose a name so it wouldn't bother me, but if it bothers you I understand!

I totally understand. For both kids, I prioritized the name meaning because I didn't want to give them anything I didn't fully love. We both vetoed loads of names due to meanings. It's obviously up to you, as most folks aren't necessarily going to know or look anything up.

I think Winona just means “first born daughter.” I personally love Winona. Here’s some helpful ideas: Winona Ruth Winona June Winona Lynn —— Aurora Winnie Winslow

@Tay sorry I forgot to specify, Mae was the name I was talking about. 😅

Well here’s more middle name ideas then! Winona Eve Winona Jane Winona Robin Winona Dawn Winona Opal

I personally believe a name does affect the persons personality so I wouldn’t use it but to each their own

Winona Rae

Could you change it to “May” rather than “mae” and then think of the beautiful spring month of May instead? And then it’s still a nod to family xx
