Gestational Diabetes

Wondering if anyone with previous GD experience could share any advice on if they had symptoms prior to having the test? I am 19 weeks and don’t have my test until 26 weeks but I have a high BMI and also PCOS which makes me insulin resistant anyway so I am just cautious that these two factors could make me likely for GD. In the last few days I’ve noticed I’m more thirsty and definitely wee’ing more (probably as a result of drinking more often!) BUT aware that these are signs of Diabetes. So just keen to see if anyone else had any early signs and asked for an earlier test? Thanks x

I did not have symptoms prior to being diagnosed and was a late diagnosis at 33 weeks due to LB having a growth spurt late on as opposed to it being picked up on the standard 26 week GTT. I also have endometriosis and was just over into the high bmi range. Best advice if you're concerned regarding diet for GD that I received from the diabetes midwife was aim to fill up on protein and just cut down (NOT cut out) carbs - hope this helps, feel free to reach out x

I had GD in my last pregnancy and I didn't have any signs beforehand. I have a high BMI and my dad is Type 1 so my midwife told me it was highly likely I'd get it based on the family history anyway. Currently awaiting my test results for my second pregnancy. When you go to your appointments do they test your urine? My midwife always did and did say that glucose in your urine could also be a sign but I never had that either. It may be that the symptoms you have are just part of pregnancy and particularly with it being warm at the moment. But no harm contacting your midwife or GP if you are worried! X

I have type 1 not gd but I drink an ungodly amount because of it. I’m sure you can request the test early if ur worried

My bmi was 49 and I also have pcos and didn’t get GD
