Metformin

Been put on metformin because my fasting levels are a little too high but I am absolutely TERRIFIED of the possible side effects. I have a severe fear of being sick/throwing up and am riddled with anxiety after my first tablet this evening. How common are these gross side effects? Is it that bad if I do get them? Anyone with any experience including positive ones about metformin I beg of you for your stories x

I got put on 500mg metformin 1 tablet at breakfast and 1 at dinner for 4 days and then had to increase my dosage to 2 tablets at breakfast and 2 at dinner. Whilst on the 1 tablet I didn’t actually have any side effects at all but a couple of days after upping the dosage I did have the runs and occasional bouts of nausea that lasted a few days. I havnt thrown up though! And the runs are beginning to clear up slowly, I’ve found that when I take the tablet in the middle of my meal the side effects aren’t as bad. Overall having diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting are common side effects of metformin but not everyone experiences them! Good luck anyhow! X

I had no side effects from metformin at all. I was taking it before bed and was fine ☺️

I got put on metformin and asked for slow release metformin as I still had morning sickness and didn’t want to risk any more nausea! They didn’t question and prescribed me it and I had no side effects apart from low appetite x
