Weaning! Milk & Meals advice!

Hello! For those of you who are currently weaning… are we offering the food before or after bottle/breast? Or do you stagger it?! I have always given my LB some food and then offered his bottle but I heard someone else say it should be bottle/breast first then food so they are getting all the nutrients they need! Any advice would be greatly appreciated! My LB is nearly 7 months. Thank you!

Food first, milk after. Otherwise they’ll go for their favorite - milk and would be too full to eat anything else.

I prioritise milk feeds, I offer solids about 1.5/2h after his last feed so that he’s a bit hungry but not starving- if he’s too hungry he gets frustrated at foods. My priority is milk, as you say for the nutrients, and I do BLW so my focus with solids isn’t consumption at the moment. Do whatever is working well for you and your baby ☺️

I am also giving milk first and then 1hr/1.5hr after food. I do a combination of BLW and spoon feeding. Our babies will be expected to eat meals with us by age 1, so weaning to soiled is for us still all about exploring and trying new tastes and textures

It depends how hungry my little one is. If he is proper angry and wanting a feed I’ll do milk first but if he’s calm I’ll do food and then milk Moon and Rue are quite popular on tik tok. She has been doing baby led weaning with her little one since she was 6 months and she goes into all the ins and outs and shows recipes too. She just came out with a cook book that has different recipes for different age ranges and I’ve found it really handy. In this book she also talks about the science behind it.

I give milk first and then wait 2 hours and then I give her some porridge or Weetabix and then I give her something different in the afternoon

The correct guidance is milk first.

Milk first food an hour after until we drop a bottle then itll be food first, otherwise they may not take their feed and they should still be taking 4-5 bottles a day. We just do it the hour after as shes hungry enough to eat then but not too hungry to get frustrated or completely fill herself n not want her milk

Thank you everyone who took the time out to comment! It’s really appreciated 🥰 We did milk first then waited an hour or so before offering food and it went down a treat! 👏🏻

Guidance from my health visitor is milk first always, this is where their nutrients come from and is their main source of food for now. We do a bottle then 1-2 hours after offer food and normally goes down well!
