How bad are runny yolks actually?

My friend just let me know that I can’t actually have runny yolk, like sunny side up or poached eggs while I’m pregnant so I was looking it up and I kinda seen 50/50 on if they are okay or not. Should I stay away from them or am I fine cause I really like poached eggs and toast and I don’t want to give them up🙃

they can contain salmonella and other bacteria that can cause foodborne illnesses. Also, when pregnant, your immune system is weaker. chances are probably low, but overall it's kinda your call. Do you wanna risk possibly getting salmonella?

This is an indirect response, but you should consider reading Bringing up Bebe! It talks about how many of the things that are ‘not safe in pregnancy’ are actually just an American standard. In other countries women eat runny eggs and sushi etc because they know the quality is good. In short, I can’t give a yes or no answer, but if you know where your eggs are from and that they’re grass fed, pasture raised, free roaming, etc. that there’s a good chance there’s no actual harm ;)

My midwife told me yesterday that the new guidance is as long as they are red lion eggs you can have them runny! 🙌🏻

I have also heard guidance saying that if that's the only way you can eat them it's better to eat them runny because eggs are a really good source of nutrition. Lettuce is the cause of food born illness too but lettuce doesn't really make the list of what not to eat. With meat, fish and eggs we probably get the advice because there's an option to cook the food completely. Some people will not be comfortable with doing anything they've heard has small risk, others will. It's all individual. I ate a few tuna sandwiches and some deli meats while pregnant with my first, I have a friend that would never.
