Insomnia

Need sleep / help! My LO sleeps really well and goes 7pm-5:30/6am at night, me on the other hand…takes me a couple of hours to fall asleep, I’m then awake an hour later then end up coming downstairs (where I am now) so that I don’t wake my partner up. I’m wide awake and struggle to go back to sleep till around 2am, then up at 6am for LO. It’s only started happening last month or so, which also happens to be when I went back to work FT (doing shared parental leave, partner is now off with LO and I work from home so still see him, get to feed him and play). I guess going back to work has something to do with it, I’m just so fed up of not sleeping. Not sure why I’m writing this, just needed to vent. But also, open to thoughts / advice if anyone else is going through the same, hoping I’m not the only one x

I’ve been finding it super difficult to switch off and sleep recently but I’m so so tired and all I want to do is sleep 😭 and then know I’ve got to be up in the morning with little one. So difficult! Plus I feel like I’m always sleeping with one eye open 😭

Take magnesium supplements and try some activity before bed to get your body tired. White noise also helps to drown out sounds and sometimes even your own thoughts.

This breathing technique works for me sometimes - I don't make the whoosh sound as it would wake my husband! And also works if I breathe out through my nose too.. worth a shot! Close your mouth and quietly inhale through your nose to a mental count of four. Hold your breath for a count of seven. Exhale through your mouth, making a whoosh sound for a count of eight. Repeat the process three more times for a total of four breath cycles.
