Toddlers weight

Whenever I look at the percentile/weight chart for my son who’s 18 months it says he under which is. Now making me paranoid as I don’t want to become obsessive over his weight like I’ve been with my own (due to body dysmorphia). He is a slimmer built forever active, eats a well balanced diet, I have no concerns on his eating or how he looks but google and me comparing him is now making me feel awful. He weights 10.5kg, 81cm In height.

My daughter is exactly the same age and almost identical height and weight. My son is in like the second percentile for his entire life. He is 3 and very healthy. Just really tall and super skinny. Bodies are built different. If there was a concern for weight the doctors would have told you. So, as long as he is eating decent most days and there’s no health concerns I wouldn’t worry much 🥰

Percentile data doesn't tell you much beyond where his weight is compared to others of his age. It reflects nothing about health. Speak to his paediatrician if you have concerns or would just like reassurance.

I completely disregard the whole percentile thing and go based on how my child looks. If they eat well and look well then that's ok. If I think suddeny they have lost weight due to not eating and and it isn't picked up again say... After a period of feeling unwell is the only time I would be worried. Kids grow and often burn through so much energy running around they won't always put masses of weight on. Just ensure it's a balanced diet and it will all balance out. As everything starts catching up. My daughter who is also 3 was 98th centile when she was born and is like 3rd now. She is slim and light but looks very much in proportion for her frame. My son who is 20cm smaller and 18 months younger is a 1 kg lighter but again he seems in proportion for his frame and he would eat all day everyday if I let him

Thank you everyone! I actually took him to a weight in centre today and spoke the one of the ladies there who works with children/development ect and she is happy with how he looks and told me not to compare or go on Google to much as most of our child’s body is to also do with genetics! Feel a lot better now! Xx
