Possible Accreta

Have any of you with low-lying placentas also been referred for checks for accreta? I have to wait 3 weeks to see the specialist, and I can't stop fretting.

I have placenta previa but there’s been no talk of accreta (at least yet 🤞🏽) there is a support group on FB for previa and accreta with more people who share their experiences and stories.

I had accreta, but wasn’t diagnosed until the delivery. I’d definitely recommend the FB group the other person recommended- lots of support and info there

I've waited almost 8 weeks for my check up, will be checking if it's moved up on Wednesday. Just a precaution as I've had a previous C-section and it was over the scar. Feel like I've been holding my breath for the last 2 months!

Good luck!! If you’re worried about accreta I’d definitely seek out an accreta specialist just to be safe

I found out it's moved up so all okay 😌

That’s great, but did they look for accreta again? My complete previa cleared but I still had accreta.

They didn't do anything other than confirm it has moved higher, I'm not sure what another step would have been

My complete previa moved but I still ended up having accreta. Unfortunately it wasn’t diagnosed before the delivery. I HIGHLY recommend that you get a second opinion from an accreta specialist (not just an MFM) if there ever at any time as the slightest suspicion of accreta. It’s super dangerous and better to be prepared for it & find out that you don’t have it than the opposite. I don’t mean to scare you, but it is a scary thing and I want you to be safe.

I had placenta previa for my last baby though lots of mystery in ultrasound and possible mast found out I had percreta the most dangerous type of acreta I had my baby at 28 weeks after massive hemorrhage at hospital. I got infections repeatedly. It’s been 18 mths and I’m starting to recover finally.

@Melissa did this cause any issues in delivery? Was the placenta delivered ok? Thanks

@Claire not to scare you but yes, lots of issues. TRIGGER WARNING:‼️‼️ I had a csection bc he was breech. I hemorrhaged & they tried to tear the placenta out in chunks. It was “sticky” so they converted to a D&C and then I was sent immediately to get a uterine embolization to stop the bleeding. They thought they got all the placenta out & told me to follow up with an accreta center. The accreta doctor discovered that I still had retained accreta. I had severe pain for months & two hospitalizations for infections from it. They tried another D&C but it failed bc the accreta was too adherent. Then they tried a hysteroscopy to get it out but my uterus perforated bc it has been impacted so much by all the infections. So they converted to a laparoscopic hysterectomy but it perforated again and nicked my bladder bc of all the scar tissue causing challenges. So they had to open me up completely to do the hysterectomy. Im 5 months from the hysterectomy and have ptsd& still have daily pain

@Melissa oh I am so sorry to hear this. I am sorry that they also didn’t spot it sooner it sort it sooner for you.

@Claire thank you. It was honestly the most difficult and traumatic thing I’ve ever experienced. That’s why I hope the OP gets a second opinion. Did/do you have accreta?

@Melissa I haven’t had anything confirmed yet I have a scan at 26 weeks with specialists as I have previous c section and fibriod surgery which was pretty large and breached the cavity so they are treating me as very high risk. Am lucky they are looking at this very early on.

@Claire that’s good they are doing that. Hopefully you don’t have it. Is an accreta specialist on your team? If not, it might be good to get a second opinion from someone at an accreta center .
