UK - mat leave policy change question

So I'm pregnant, not told work yet however I plan to early sept and I'll be 16 weeks. Our mat leave pay policy at the moment is 6m full pay, 3 months stat then 3 months zero pay. There is talk from November they are going to do 12 months full pay for mat leave. I work in the emergency services. If I tell them in September will I be stuck with the 6m full pay policy..? And tell them later to get the better policy. Or I will get the better policy even if I tell them in September??

I'd have thought you would be subject to the policy that is in place at the time of your mat leave.

@Christina I wouldn't be starting mat leave until Feb 2025... I'm telling them about my pregnancy September this year? Or do you think whatever policy is on place once I tell them I would stay on? If that's the case I won't tell them until November 😂 the money I'd be losing out on isn't ideal

There will be a sage in the policy I imagine if when it starts

@Lucy if you have access to either or both policies check them beforehand if you prefer but I would have thought that regardless of when you tell them the policy that is in place at the time of your mat leave would apply.

When you tell them is irrelevant, when you take your maternity leave is what matters and if they add additional eligibility criteria

@Claudia I thought that would be the case... I guess when I start the mat leave is the key date
