Thoughts on sending your baby to nursery before they can talk?

This may seem like an odd concern to have but I remember going to nursery and I've worked as an agency nursery nurse in lots of different nurseries over Northampton and nearby. Circle time, sharing news and various opportunities to communicate were a big part of it and I can just imagine my daughter thinking sod this I'm off lol. I want her to feel she can communicate her needs as I can't expect other people to understand her cries.

My little boy has been in nursery since he was 7months as I had to go back to work and I’m so glad he was. It got him used to it from a young age and the people that care for the babies everyday learn their cries and their needs. No regrets and I would do the same again, he has a bunch of friends all that can’t talk yet but they all potter around and play together/along side eachother he’s now 18 months and most days I get tantrums because he doesn’t want to come home 😂 x

I personally won’t be sending my daughter to nursery until she can let me know what’s going on there as I know a lot of what happens in some nurseries such as favouriting certain kids, some times they leave nappies on all day…. And asked for these reasons I will be keeping my daughter with me until she can speak to me and tell me if anything happens to her or around her x

@Courtney awww that's so cute, what nursery does he go to? I don't know about you but I'm really struggling to find a nursery that offers the free 15 hours and doesn't force you to have a large minimum number of hours and charge for loads of extras. X

@Dani have you tried the Ashbourne nursery’s? We do 2 full days a week, when he was a baby we only did 2 half days a week but now 2 full days and we get to use the free 15 hours and the government 20% discount so 2 days is costing around £230 now whereas before it was £500 a month 🤮 x

@Chyanne can completely get that, I know this is really dark but I know people who were sexually abused as children and they could speak but told no one. Being able to trust those who look after your children is so hard and overwhelming. X

@Courtney ooo cheers I'll look them up, do they charge for meals, nappies etc? X

@Dani 100% agree with that and I honestly wouldn’t want to risk my daughter going through something like that x

@Chyanne same, out of interest did you find your fertility journey hard to get your daughter as my journey has genuinely nearly killed me and I wonder if I'm more protective as a result. X

@Dani didn’t used to but since we’re getting funded hours now they charge £10 a week for meals and snacks etc. I provide all my own nappies and wipes and they keep them in his basket and let me know when they need topped up. We live in a village and the majority of the girls that work in the nursery live in the village which is nice x

@Dani I felt pregnant completely unexpected on the contraception pill x

@Chyanne that must have been a surprise x

@Courtney nice, do they charge for changing nappies? X

@Dani no! Everything is included in the main nursery fee ☺️ x

@Courtney see that's what I thought was meant to happen but I heard back from a nursery and they were charging for everything. Also £3 for consumables but apparently this doesn't include food, drinks or nappies 🙃 x

My little one still isn’t in nursery for this very reason. He is 26 months and has only just started saying a few words. For me, it’s more of a fear of him not being able to tell me anything that may have happened during the day whilst he is there.

@Danielle 100% get that, are also he can't tell them what he wants. X

Hey hey Dani, I just seen one of your comments I’ve just started my boy at Great Houghton daisy chain. They offer the funded hours, tax free child care and you only pay the hours you want. If your child is 2+ it’s £5ph and if they are under 2 it’s £5.50!! There minimum hours are 4 a week So yes my boy goes to nursery he’s 20 months old- so can talk a little but not much. I’ve heard of some nursery’s have live cameras apparently if that helps.xx
