Car sharing on maternity

Hi everyone random question but does anyone car share with their partner and if so how are you finding it? I'm debating selling my car due to it constantly needing to be repaired and to reduce my monthly outgoings whilst on maternity but I'm worrying as I don't want to lose any independence plus it's going to be a difficult time anyway and I don't want to make it any harder. My partner works 40 hours a week on a shift basis so having the car is not a guarantee as he'll often need it, just wanted to know how everyone else finds it, drove nearly everyday since I was 18 so scared to give up the car šŸ˜‚ any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Xx

Do you have things nearby that you can walk to? Supermarkets, cafes, parks, friends? And do you have a bus route if you need it? We car share but he commutes by train so I basically have access to it all the time. I donā€™t tend to use it most days as Iā€™ll go for a walk, shop is local, as is a park. Thereā€™s one day I go to a baby group that is a drive away but I could get a bus and walk if I had to.

@Rosie our main bus route is right by our house which stops off in town and outside of our hospital, I'm prepared to walk (to get rid of the pregnancy weight šŸ˜‚) and my partner has already agreed that if needs be I can drop him off at work and keep the car for the day but some nights he's not finished till 11pm meaning I'd have to get baby girl in the car to pick him up! I know it's a little sacrifice I just worry about no longer having a car as I've drove nearly everyday for the past 5 years, I won't be getting rid of it until I start maternity leave in 5 weeks so I'll have it for a little longer yet xxx

How long is his commute? When youā€™re in the thick of it, you might struggle to drive, so have a contingency in place if heā€™s stuck at work. The occasional taxi home, or lift from a colleague might be an option? You can defo make it work by the sounds of it.
