Making my own family

Hi Mummas, I’m a recently single Mum of a lovely tiny human. I’m thinking about trying again by myself. Has anyone made a blended family by themselves? I’m really interested in hearing perspectives on the impact on littles of different family structures and how you coped with delivery and postpartum ❤️

I have 2 children to my ex partner who are now 27 and 24 and 2 Donor conceived daughters aged 11 and almost 16 months who are full siblings If I wasn't 46 I'd absolutely have had one more

Do you mind me asking how you’ve spoken to your donor kids about the different family structure. Also feel free to chat me if you’d prefer to DM ❤️❤️❤️ sorry if I’m using the wrong terminology

I've always just been honest with them. My 11yr old knows she was conceived via a donor and honestly isn't bothered. As I did "at home" donations I'm still in contact with the donor and he is happy to meet the girls if they want it but when I ask her she says no. She knows the older 2 are from a relationship but thats never been something we've had to navigate as my ex didn't bother with our kids either so she understands that even if you have a dad (or mum) that doeant mean they're always part of your life so being DC is just another way of being born. I am slowly introducing my youngest to her story aka that mummy wanted another baby to love and have in our family so a kind man helped mummy put you in my tummy As she gets older and understands more I'll introduce more complex words like donor and solo mum so it's never ever a secret

Thank you so much for sharing. Sounds like you have built an absolutely amazing family x

I have a 3 year old and a 12 week old, full siblings by the same donor. I haven't had to navigate questions yet, but I intend to let them know mama's friend helped her make her precious family. The donor is familiar with them in the way my village is, but he's more akin to an uncle. My village is also comprised of people at different stages of life and relationships, so a rich diversity of what a family can look like.
