Protein in urine

I had trace protein in my urine at 20 weeks and it’s now protein + at 24 weeks. My blood pressure has been up and down but was ok at the 24 week appointment. My midwife has asked I take in another sample this week. I am taking aspirin as I have family history of pre eclampsia. Is it anything to worry about at this stage? How quickly could things progress? She went through all the signs with me and it put me on edge like she was expecting things to go south?

I had trace at booking, and up until a week ago (27 weeks) I had between 1+ and 2+ on and off. Was told at the time that I will develop pre-eclampsia it's just a matter of when. On Tuesday just gone I suddenly had 3+. Was admitted to hospital and now I'm on medications for pre-eclampsia. Been told it can come on pretty suddenly so I need to be careful.

@Zöe I’m sorry to hear that, did they give you any advice when they said you would develop it? Or is there nothing that can be done? I hope the medication helps x

They said nothing can be done as it's just something that happens, and they don't even 100% know why it happens. But I have been advised to not be stressed and take it easy as stress won't help the blood pressure. Have been told that baby girl will be born by 37 weeks though so just trying to prep for that now

Hey, I've just gone through this. I went in for a midwife appointment at 30 weeks. My BP was 130 over 90. I went to triage and they kept me overnight and put me on lobetalol. I was monitored every other day. On the 15th I went in for another check and my health suddenly declined - bp was 170 over 116. Headache, could not keep food or water down. My baby was born via emergency csection at 32+5. My preeclampsia turned into HELLP - thats what caused the sudden decline. It can come on really quickly. However, there is nothing you can do to prevent it and do not stress over it (easier said than done) just take it easy. I'm not trying to scare you, and I'm sorry if I have, just wanted to share my experience as I didn't know anyone who had gone through what I had. Just remember that if it does come on, they know what they're doing and will put you and baby first! I have a premie and he is doing soooo well!

@Tayla I’m so glad he’s doing well. Thank you for sharing. I just want to make sure I’m prepared xx

Just sharing my experience, I had early preeclampsia at 23wks, I had no protein in urine at 22 weeks, but by 23wk2d I had 3+ protein in my urine. Came on very fast, they basically bought in the doctors and told me the odds of my baby surviving at that gestation. Unfortunately the damage was already done for me and there was no chance for the pregnancy to continue without major risk to my life as my liver and kidneys started to fail. Just take it day by day! Take it easy, and keep your baby in there as long as you can!

I was completely fine at all my appointments. 19 weeks, 24 weeks etc and then at 26 +5 I had unreadable levels of protein in my urine, my bp was dangerously high for a non pregnant person and my son had to be delivered then. I declined extremely rapidly. I went from zero protein to unreadable amounts. FYI my son was born at 669grams and is an extremely happy, healthy 13month old ☺️
