Did you have pre-eclampsia? If so, please share your experience!

I had gestational hypertension in my previous pregnancy and have been told I'm severely high risk for developing pre eclampsia this time.

I had preeclampsia! Is there anything specific that you want to know about? If not I can just share my general experience

@Lizz general experience but also: how scary was it? 😭 because I feel like my anxiety about it is counterintuitive because it raises my blood pressure lmao but it also feels like a rational fear

I had it postpartum! Didn’t have it in pregnancy, did have gestational hypertension though

I had a mini stoke & pre eclampsia with my first , I think most of my symptoms was from the mini stroke not the pre eclampsia tho

It was a little stressful especially when I was first diagnosed. I was worried it would turn into full blown eclampsia which is really scary, but also pretty rare. It never happened for me thankfully. Things that were different: - After I was diagnosed I had to have a nonstress test and blood test every week until I gave birth. - I had to be induced at 37 weeks. - I had to monitor my blood pressure daily at home. Things that sucked: - I got weird eye spots and vision things. - I got bad headaches that sometimes lasted a day or two. - I gained A LOT of weight really quickly which I unfortunately still haven’t lost. - Towards the end I had extreme swelling to the point I couldn’t get both shoes on. It was extra weird since it was way worse on one side. Overall, my baby was happy and healthy and I’m also doing just fine!

I had high blood pressure at about 25 weeks, they put me on baby aspirin right away. Fetal monitoring once a week starting at 32 weeks. At 38 weeks I had to be induced bc blood pressure was 150/100. After 2 days of contractions I finally asked for an epidural which caused my blood pressure to drop, which in turn caused baby’s heart rate to drop. Resulting in emergency c section. Baby was perfectly healthy and honestly I was relieved having a c section. No other issues or symptoms from preeclampsia. 22 weeks pregnant with my second and also high risk, been taking baby aspirin since 12 weeks and check blood pressure regularly at home, also on Dash diet. So far so good. Good luck! You’ll be fine, try not to stress and relax as much as possible. ♥️

@Olivia I've had a mini stroke caused by birth control before and having another stroke is my #1 fear with pre-eclampsia

Okay so this is pretty similar to my experience with gestational hypertension! I had to be monitored twice a week with a non-stress test and daily BP monitoring at home. I was induced at 37 weeks. The only difference for me I guess is that there was no protein in my urine. They did test me several times postpartum too because my BP actually got worse postpartum and needed to be managed with labetalol for months, but it's back to normal now.

I had high blood pressure in my first pregnancy, not pre eclampsia and was medicated from 28 weeks. This time it’s twins so I’m even higher risk but am almost 34 weeks now and my BP is behaving. since my first pregnancy I’ve linked that I actually have white coat syndrome and medical anxiety so when they do my BP at appointments it’s always up but at home (I’m a midwife so use my work kit) my BP is textbook!

For me it was very scary. I had no idea I had it until I had to go to the emergency room for not feeling well turns out I had covid and preeclampsia. Due to having both I needed a c-section at 31 weeks due to my health declining. The before wasn’t that bad the after “c-section” was traumatizing for me. I had no help due to covid, limited nurse visits. Then was sent home and rehospitalized due to high blood pressure, I needed magnesium drip and was in the hospital for a few days after. 4 months later I’m still dealing with the aftermath of the preeclampsia (which I initially didn’t know I had). I still can’t get my blood pressure under control, my nervous system feels jacked up(not sure if it’s from birth trauma) or health issues. Advocate advocate advocate. Advocate for yourself or have someone do it for you. If something feels off say something and insist they check it out. Preeclampsia is tricky. Maybe get a doula to help advocate for you.

Yes! It sounds like it. I did have the protein, but my BP never stayed so high they wanted to induce prior to 37 weeks and my blood tests never showed significant enough damage to warrant induction before then either. I think if you are diagnosed (severe or not) induction at 37 weeks is standard.

I had an emergency c section at 28 weeks cause it wasn’t caught in time. Spent 5 days in the hospital trying to keep me pregnant but it wasn’t safe for us.

@TwinMom I am so sorry you went through that ❤️ for me, my gestational/postpartum hypertension didn't fully resolve until about 6 months postpartum. There is hope it will return to normal. I learned sugar was oddly a huge trigger for me, and cutting my sugar intake to 50% daily value was key for my BP management longterm (with labetalol as needed.) I had to be rehospitalized for my bp after birth too and that was the scariest part, having to leave my baby :( wishing you luck with your recovery momma

@Khyia how was baby? That's so scary:(

I was high risk for developing preeclampsia and out on baby aspirin at 16 weeks. At 20 weeks I started to swell and my bp started to rise but urine and bloods was negative. I was monitored every 2 weeks until 36 weeks along where it my bp was really high and I had ++++ protein in my urine. I was so swollen, headaches and generally just felt so unwell. I put on soo much weight and kept getting floaters in my vision. Blood test came back negative again and they had me back daily at midwives for urine tests, bp and bloods. After a week and a half I spoke to a consultant and they booked me in to be induced at 39 and a half weeks as it was the earliest spot and wanted to get baby out. I was induced but ended with an emergency c section (for other reasons). Once he was out though my bp sky rocketed and they had to give me all these different medications to get it down. My bp went back to normal at 5 weeks pp and I was discharged at 6 week check :)

He stayed in the nicu for 2 months. Was discharged before his due date which was wonderful. He honestly had very little to no issues which we are so thankful for. He’s turning 2 in December and he’s pretty much caught up to his actual age. He’s worked really hard.
