Weaning onto solids

Is anyone else really struggling to wean there babies! My LB has little to no interest in food and I’m stuck with ideas on how to help. I know “food under 1 is for fun” but 80% of the time there’s no acknowledgement there’s food infront if him🙃 Pic so i don’t lose the post 🫶🏼

My little girl is 7 months aswell and solely breastfed, she shows interest in things infront of her and my food but only likes sweet things …. Mango puree and prune puree…. The only thing she does have that’s thicker is porridge with pear puree apart from that I’m struggling too, she doesn’t like any actual foods as such and no meals mashed up . I tried her with mashed potato, salmon, rice, broccoli, avocados… you name it …. Doesn’t like any of it

@sophie it’s so hard! I’m doing BLW weaning because he absolutely refuses to eat anything mashed up but he’s the same as your little girl there might be one of two things he will eat but that’s only occasionally it’s never guaranteed. I’ve tried all sorts for foods I just can’t seem to crack him 🙃

@Elise exactly the same with me, she’s had a lot of veg mashed up but it’s a no all around 😫feel like I’m getting no where, I’ve tried her on practically all the Ella’s kitchen meal sachets before I try her on actually handmade meals but all of them she doesn’t like 😓only sweet stuff she kinda likes 🙄

Same here not anything I can Say she likes

Only thing my baby seems to enjoy is yoghurt with a fruit puree. Everything else is thrown on the floor or not touched. I know it's "just for fun" but by 1 she's supposed to be on 3 meals and 2 snacks?? I can't see that happening in the next 4.5 months. She's still on the same amount of milk, don't know when she's supposed to start dropping but she's not even close to that.

@sophie just feels like being stuck in a constant circle🙃

@Sophie this is the thing! There’s no way he’s going to be on that much food in the next 4.5 months and I have no clue how to even get to 1 proper meal let alone a while days worth of food. I’ve mentioned it to the HV to which I get “it’s just for fun” 🙃 He’s no where near dropping any bottles he’s still on 5 a day

@Firdaws in the same boat 🚤

My baby is 8 months and is having issues with thicker meals. He’s gagging and throwing up sometimes 😩 but does want to try everything. I want to get off them stage two foods they are too thin.

My baby is the same! She will eat yogurts, porridge purées but when it comes to solids she doesn’t seem to be interested. She does enjoy her snacks like melty sticks wafers etc but when I’ve made her pancakes, pizza tortillas or mashed up meals like spag bowl etc she just wants to throw everything onto the floor. I’ve tried not to let it worry me but glad to see it’s not just her 😒

My little one is literally doing the same and I am so lost coz have no idea how to prepare meals or how to continue! And how to prepare for the next few days/months

My little one doesn’t seem to be loving solids either. He will only eat whole meals blended like curries, spag Bol, veg chilli etc. and mostly just those with chopped tomatoes or passata 😂 he grabs the spoon from us and will only feed himself and just throws any finger foods on the floor (though we don’t offer them much as I’m terrified of choking). He doesn’t eat much of it and eats nothing like the videos that are all over social media!

I struggle to get her to eat anything using BLW methods but purées she will entertain. I’ve found anything with milk she laps up. So the last few days I’ve made chicken cut up really small, mash & carrot with a splash of whole milk, salmon shredded, mash and broccoli broken up with a splash of whole milk and they’ve been a hit. Porridge we started off basically milk texture but I’m making it gradually thicker to get her used to texture

Hey do u eat with him/in front of him? I feel that has realllyy helped my 2nd baby. My eldest was a bit slow to take to food but 2nd one now is sooo intrigued when we’re eating and will always open his mouth if i offer from my plate or his brother’s plate. We all sit together on the table for dinner at least and i try not to overwhelm him, just pop one thing in front of him on his tray not even on a plate. Like today i just let him munch on a broccoli floret. Not a lot is being consumed but he’s at least understanding the concept of us sitting together, having a meal, 3 times a day etc. and exploring new tastes and textures

Check out solid starts on instagram! I followed their methods and my now 10 month old is a great eater and will eat most foods. A few things to consider: 1. Is your baby hungry enough? Or is he maybe too hungry? Sometimes my lo refuses foods because he’s too hungry. Aim to serve foods around 1 hour after breastfeeding or bottle 2. Try eating with your baby! Often I have to take a bite of the food first before my son will, I also try to model the chewing with exaggerated chewing and he generally will take a bite and copy me! 3. Use foods that are easy for him to pick up! Solid starts has a free first food database that shows you how to serve different foods for specific ages. Large pieces of fruits, vegetables, and meat are easy for baby to pick up and totally safe for them to feed themselves.
