Preventing pre eclampsia in second pregnancy

Hi mamas I just found out that I am pregnant with baby #2. With my first baby, I had pre eclampsia at 37weeks and had to have an emergency c section with general anaesthetic which was pretty traumatic. I was wondering what are some measures we can take (if any) to lower the chances of having it again? It’s the first thing I thought about when I saw the positive pregnancy test and wanted to ask for your advice. Tysm X

Hi lovely, I’m no help in particular as have only been pregnant the once and developed cholestatsis (30 weeks) and pre e (35 weeks) and I was told whilst as in patient at the hospital that pre e is determined at conception unfortunately but stats show it is less likely to occur or at least occur later in subsequent pregnancies (however I think it’s different for everyone as I’ve read so many different stories). Check out facebook page: pre eclampsia, eclampsia and HELP they are fantastic and I’m sure if you posted this in here the admin who are medical professionals might be able to shed some light 🥰

@Beth I was told by the doctor that I had 25 percent chance I would have pre E again if became pregnant but shouldn't be as severe as 1st time

@Samantha I got told similar, and got told if I did develop again it’s very likely it would be later than the first time! 🤞🏼🥰

I had preeclampsia with both my pregnancies, the first was severe and didn’t have a good outcome so I was terrified the second time around. Second time I started Baby aspirin once a day at night the moment I found out I was pregnant again (this was discussed with my preeclampsia specialist at the end of my last pregnancy) and at 12 weeks increased to two pills. I got a blood pressure cuff for home and kept on top of my blood pressure with early medication. I also made sure to exercise ( swimming) the best I could at the beginning. I did get preeclampsia again, but way later in my pregnancy and not nearly as severe.

Thank you all so so much. I will post in the fb group - thank you for the recommendation @Beth @Ashley I am really sorry to hear about your experience. Very glad that you could manage it the second time around and that all went well. ❤️

I'm also on baby aspirin to prevent pre e.
