My son is a picky eater and has some sensory aversions to the texture of food. On days he wouldn’t want to eat I’d give him pediasure or blend up a smoothie but other than that, most days he just wants nuggets. I’ve ended up making a lot of his meals to look like what he likes to eat meanwhile secretly replacing the ingredients for him.
I’ve done bribery (she’s on a chocolate kick so each bite of a meal she gets a smarty or small bite of chocolate), I’ve also used dips (mostly ketchup), we’ve eaten all together at the table, and I’ve also let her eat while she plays and just leave the food where she can reach. I’ve also started making meal plans so she gets something different each day. We still have good and bad days but she also gets pediasure to help
What’s he drinking? When I switched my daughter from formula to cows milk, she became so dependent on it, that she refused to eat. All she wanted was milk. Time for a nap, milk. Hurt her foot, milk. Dinner? Nope, just milk. I cut milk out of her diet as a beverage. It’s used as an ingredient, but she no longer drinks anything aside from water. No juice, no milk. Her pediatrician agreed. I started giving her a multivitamin and just continued to offer her various foods. It did take awhile but she opened up and now there isn’t much she won’t eat. She cried in the grocery store yesterday because I couldn’t find the olives she likes 🙄
I found serving family style and letting them choose can help. I've done plates that we share so they see us eating the same thing/we take turns getting stuff.
