If you have any medical reason to, you can go on medical leave and then family leave. Also if you have short term disability, you can use that in pregnancy.
I have. I had severe SPD and couldn’t walk by 36 weeks. They took me out due to pregnancy related conditions. Just have ur doctor or midwife fill out the medical form on the website - there’s a box for pregnancy and a box for having delivered. You can take up to 20 weeks of medical, and up to 12 weeks of bonding but it cannot exceed 26 weeks total. So if you take 6 weeks before pregnancy and then 12 (usually 6-8 for vaginal or c section) after pregnancy that’s 18 weeks. You would only have 8 bonding weeks left to take for a total of 26 weeks.
Def ask your doctor about any extra medical leave before you give birth! Im deciding to use PTO for 2 weeks up to my due date when my PFML starts, but if I can’t make it until then I’ll ask for medical ahead of my due date. You just don’t want to use too much and lose the time after giving birth. 26 weeks total medical and family. So if you are using 12 family weeks, see if your doctor can give you the maximum medical time starting early! So 14 weeks. They usually will give 12 for just giving birth. I’m feeling your pain now at 36 weeks I just have two more weeks to hang in there 🤞🏻🤞🏻
Yes , my pcp took me out prior to maternity leave even though my OB refused to . Have your pcp or OB fill out the medical forms and submit them to DFML . Your mental health and physical health matters the most !
