Hi, so no tips. Just wanted to say that we are struggling too. My girl is generally really happy but after like 3 mins of trying new food she is done. The fussing starts and she wants out of her chair. The only thing way she will happily eat is straight from a pouch or she will eat puffs. I don’t want to rely on the pre packaged stuff but she won’t eat anything else 😩 I guess just wanted to say you aren’t the only one struggling
@Melissa you can buy refillable pouches that you can wash and put your own purees in, if that helps!
How long after nursing do you try doing solids? My baby was fussy after 5 orn10 minutes during dinner time when we started giving him solids, but I started nursing him 10-30 minutes before trying to get him to eat instead of an hour before like I WAS doing, and he started being a lot less fussy and more interested in his food and trying it. I also bought him a self feeding spoon when first starting because he didn't seem to like it when we tried to feed him, but became more interested once I gave him the spoon.
Aah that’s a good idea to nurse before solids. So he doesn’t crave milk when he’s hungry. I can give that a whirl. He does like to self feed and hates when I feed him but if he self feeds he barely gets anything in. I thought that would be fine till the 7th month mark but now his 8th month is running and he’s still not eating much when he’s self feeding. Is that expected still?
Yeah I had found that when my baby started eating solids, it ended up just making him hungry and craving milk because he was starting to put stuff in his stomach but not enough to fill it, so he would get frustrated and want milk. I would try just letting him feed himself, eating solids right now is more about exploring tastes and textures rather than focusing on the amount he's eating. Maybe he's just not a puree baby either. My baby ate purees for maybe a week but as soon as I gave him mashed sweet potato that he could eat with his fingers, he stopped wanting purees and wouldn't let us feed him anymore. So I started just giving him table foods cut up really small and only gave him a little at a time. And he obviously didn't eat very much in the beginning but now he eats probably at least half or more of what I give him. I had tried giving him big items to bite into but he would put the whole thing in his mouth before he bit😅This was about a month ago when we started purees and switched to table foods.
But he will eventually learn how to actually feed himself if you keep trying and letting him try as well. When I let my baby self feed with purees, he definitely just seemed more interested in chewing on the spoon rather than eating what was on it. So I first started to give him mashed up food that he could grab with his fingers, and then transitioned into foods cut up very small. I hope that helps, this is just what worked for my baby but I hope it works for yours well!
Also his pediatrician had said at his 6 month appointment that he could eat 3 times a day, so we sort of just jumped right into trying to feed him 3 times a day (just breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and just started with mainly fruit for breakfast and veggies for lunch/dinner. If you do that though, I recommend finding foods high in fiber so your baby doesn't get too constipated🥲 or sneaking in bites of pureed prunes in between him feeding himself, like we had to lol I don't know how many fruits/veggies you've introduced but I would also recommend sticking to the same veggie for lunch/dinner if it's new so you can check for allergies, or doing the same fruit 3 times that day for the same reason.
Playing with their food is part of them learning about it, but I don't know about the fussiness
