I started with baby snack. Like the puffs , and the yogurt melts , things like that. And when he got the hang of hand to mouth motion , I started with all soft foods and eventually worked up to pasta and things like that
@Rebekah I did this as well, i had such bad anxiety my son would choke. It was a battle with myself
It was different with all three of my children. I waited on them to take the lead. My first I was nervous because all of her teeth took forever to come in. She literally one day snatched my breakfast out of my hand and I monitored her from then on. My second literally did the same thing with my jambalaya at 10 months and my 10 month I currently have is transitioning into solids with no rush into trying everything he doesn’t want everything anyway. I’ve always puréed their foods until comfortable, but to test at if they’re ready try with soft foods and gradually walk in other things ex: smashed bananas, small cubed pancakes, meatloaf & mash, smashed pees, just get their mouths familiar with the motion of chewing and swallowing and tell them to chew and swallow as their eating to ensure their taking their time and not rushing. Sometimes gagging and choking can be from being greedy lol.
You’re not behind! Do what you can! I felt like that at first too! If you’re not ready — baby won’t be ready! My son has 3 teeth and we just give him food in a spoon that is the size of his thumbnail. We don’t do purées! As time goes by - the pieces are bigger! Have you downloaded the solid starts app?
We did solids from day one with no teeth. Just now got our first 2 teeth (barely) at 10 months and he eats all sorts of food, toast and meat and veggies of all kinds! Go on the solid starts app it really helps! You can look up any food you are thinking of feeding and it will tell you how to prepare it for their age range! Take a baby cpr course if really nervous but we haven't had any trouble and "gagging " is normal it is NOT choking if you can hear noises it is gagging not choking .
