My son who’s 14 months has started sticking his finger down his throat and making himself gag sometimes to the point of vomiting he does this with every meal and snack I’m unsure what to do or why he’s doing this just wondering if anyone has gone through this situation has any suggestions

My daughter did the same with her spoon when she was that age. Will he let you feed him? I had to sit right next to her during her meals to make sure she wouldn’t do it

@Daphne I feed him and he still does it no matter how many times I remove his hand from his mouth just does it none stop

It might be a phase. They’re figuring out how their bodies work and testing things out. For the longest time, my son would shove the tightening strap on his car seat down his throat while I was driving 🙃 if you can, try to redirect without reacting too much. But the novelty will wear off eventually and he’ll discover a new fun body trick

My son did this for a while in his cotbed. He was definitely just trying it out, and probably realised we came running each time at the start. Gradually I stopped reacting so quickly to it and didn't say anything to him to acknowledge the behaviour, in case he was doing it for the reaction. Touch wood, he hasn't done it for a few months so hopefully we're through the worst of it!
