Solids

My baby just turned 6 months on Sunday & i’ve been attempting to give him purées since 4 months when the doctor told me to. He hates it!! Please tell me im not the only one 😭 he clamps his mouth shut and refuses and when I do get some in his mouth he will projectile vomit. I’ve tried really thin consistency and thicker as well; greens, yellows, fruits… you name it. I’ve also tried both breast milk as well as the water I steamed them with.

I've been putting it in my daughters bottles the purées a little at a time

I was told that if your baby clenches their mouth when you try to feed them to not force it on them because it can lead to bad habits.

@Aileen I was thinking this. i’ll stop!! i have an appointment with his pediatrician tomorrow so ill let her know.

@Alexis he won’t take a bottle as he’s EBF 😭😭😭

The current US recommendations are to start solids “around 6 months.” And what pediatric PTs and OTs say they look for the ability to sit up independently for 15 minutes plus INTEREST IN FOOD. You’re missing that one so I’d just try casually every week or so if I were you. Don’t force it! Just give your kid the option to try things, preferably during meal time when your baby and see a parent modeling eating

At 4 months my little one didn’t understand how to eat and would just push the food back out, we tried here and there but he never really got it, he doesn’t care for purées much even now but I mix them in with his oatmeal and he loves it.
