I would put food in my mouth and exaggerate chewing with my mouth open to show my baby. I would also use my hands for emphasis to mimic chewing.
I don't think my kid that's almost one chews like we do. I didn't do purees too long and started making them chunkier like someone said and slowly stopped that. He didn't like eggs either but he's been having them for a while now but doesn't always like them like any food. He's getting pickier now too and will throw it right out so not sure how people even stop picky eaters at this age.
I found that egg was a weird texture for my little one. He liked most foods but took a while to like egg. Maybe try chunks of soft vegetables instead or even just a crust of bread. He can practice gnawing on that. Don’t worry he’s still very little, he’ll learn! Just keep giving him chunks of food with different textures and he’ll start practicing
He won't "never" learn to eat. BLW advocates can be obnoxious and moms get scared that if their babies aren't terrific eaters by 9 months, they will never learn. Do you know any young kids who don't know how to eat? No. They all figure it out. Our generation was mostly raised on purees, and we know how to chew. Just take it at your own pace and let him learn at his. He will get there.
My baby had trouble learning how to chew some stuff and he would put it in his mouth then just spit it back out. What helped us was to feed him the same foods that we are eating or eat some of his feed so we can show him how to eat it. He’s 17 months now and I literally just did this at dinner to help him eat a whole strawberry for the first time. Hope it works for you if you haven’t tried it already! Edit: my son also hated eggs up until about 2 months ago no matter how we made them for him
My son ate mashed food until 1 year old!! I hate BLW, my son choked and it was the worst experience to me. I was able to save him and the firefighters came in a heartbeat and I sobbed like there was no tomorrow. Just keep increasing the texture and chewing will become instinctive. My son is now 16 months old and eats pretty much everything like us!
I was just talking to my pediatrician about this. My daughter “eats” but doesn’t actually swallow any of the food. It seems crazy that the expectation is that they will be easy three meals a day in just three months!! She said 6-9 months it’s common for them to just explore/play and not actually consume anything. 10-12 months is when they really start to figure things out. Idk! I’m hoping for a change too! 😵😵
