We are just putting one school down, there’s only 2 schools in our catchment area and we live across the road to one of them so only applying for that one
It's only 3 schools. My oldest started this year and they advised us to make sure we used all three choices to maximise the chance of getting a school xx
I believe in London you get more choices, elsewhere it’s 3. And yes, if you don’t get given a place at any of the schools on your application the local authority will allocate you a place at whatever school has a place- sometimes that’s going to be a local school, other times depending on admission numbers, it could be a school further away.
I'm in Stockport and you have up to 6 choices here. They advise to use them all as like others have said you could end up anywhere with space. It did say that by just picking one it doesn't increase your chances getting that school. I picked 5 as I ran out of local schools I would want. I'd hope I'd get at least 1 of them x
I’m in Leeds and we get 5. I only applied for 2 for my eldest who started this September & he got his first choice which was also out of catchment area x
@Holly just so you know just because you live really close it doesn’t guarantee you a spot. They chose by catchment area randomly
@Emma I totally understand this, and was worried about this at first but we are confident we will get a place and if we don’t we will be fighting the decision
@Holly I was told to still put at least a second choice as if you don’t get the first they can literally allocate you anywhere. Which your child may need to attend whilst the appeal is taking place. OP, I was told there are up to 6 choices but it’s advised to put at least 3 for the reason I mentioned above ^
I’m in Hyde, Manchester, and it’s up to 6 choices but you don’t have to put 6 they do say tho that if you only put 2 for example and those 2 aren’t available you will get placed in the next schools with availability after everyone else that has done more selections has been sorted
Only 3 choices you need to put x
