Baby prefers jars and pouches/ weaning struggles

So I was so overwhelmed with the weaning after the first couple of weeks and gave my baby the jars and pouches (I was starting back to work too so these were handy) but baby will not eat anything I make. I know she doesn’t even know the difference between my cooking and pouches but she just will not entertain it if I sit something I’ve made down and try to feed her. Anyone else have similar experience and how you overcame? I’m still struggling with weaning. She is great at eating finger foods but won’t eat enough so I do give her a bit of a pureed meal too to fill her up. I’ve been using the what mummy makes book and mashing it up or blitzing these meals and still hates it. Can anyone give me some fool proof meal ideas 😅🥺😭 Its been a massive stress for me since starting this journey.

I tried a load of different pouches, found what she liked most and then made the same meal with all the ingredients listed on the back, blitzed it up and frozen them in small portions. She seems to like them just as much 🤷‍♀️ I've got the what mummy makes book too but haven't tried anything from that yet as my baby was also slow to weaning so I have just tried things she clearly likes. Good luck!

Im exactly the same, i combo feed to make sure she gets full. I use the pouches sometimes to just complement normal meals. For example ill make pasta and then use a pouch on top to make it like spag bol. Or i use the tilda micro rice for babies and then add some pouch as a sauce to make it like curry and rice or chilli and rice. Another one that my little one likes in beans so ive transitioned to beans on a crumpet or beans on toast and i just squash them down so they dont fall off rhe bread. Ive also done salmon squashed into avocado and served that on toast too. If i feel just finger food i always follow up with a fruit pouch as a dessert so she is full. I also do porridge or fruit pouch for breakfast or sometimes I make fairy free pancakes with bananas that squash up well. Or weetabix is a good one with different fruits. My baby has milk, egg and tree nut allergies so ive found the whole experience really stressful. Just do what you are comfortable with and at your own pace xxx

And i forgot to say… if you little one likes pouches and jars and they are eating then that is fine too. Far too much pressure is put on people to do BLW, they all grow up at some point and have preferences. Dont be hard on yourself - fed is best xxx

My little boy was like this and to be honest still had times when he is like it. Would also only eat my partners food which was really odd considering we practically did the same thing. One thing please don’t feel bad about giving a pouch, I always do but when you’ve got a baby that will only eat certain things or not eating anything the fact they have something is honestly better and in theory there’s really nothing bad about a pouch. I just have bad mum guilt when it comes to them for some reason xx

You can buy reusable pouches on Amazon and put your own food in there if baby will only eat from a pouch. Worth a try x

Thanks girls 💕 so many helpful tips here!! It’s so hard because like some of you said you get such mum guilt using pouches. I just feel like it’s being drummed into us that should all be the whole foods for BLW and whilst she is eating these foods most goes on the floor!! The purées are going better so I need to relax into this. It’ll all come in time but it’s so hard to remember this in the moment xo

Baby led weaning doesn't have to be a complex meal. Just by handing them a piece of toast with cream cheese on it, you're BLW! Same with just handing them half a banana to hold and bite independently. I made a chicken curry from scratch for our own dinner last week, but pulled out chicken, washed off the spicy sauce and handed her the piece of chicken. I know BLW can seem complicated but it's literally just whatever you've already got in the house ❤️ And for what it's worth, those pouches are ace. I preload spoons and give her the pouches to practice her using cutlery, but also spoon feed her the pouches if she opens her mouth and likes it. You sound like you're doing fab! Pouches are so handy!

My girl hates pouches 😭 its actually so hard to be always cooking and thinking what to make , I wish I could just use pouch there and there .. as long as they have something in their belly it's all good .. hungry baby won't sleep so you doing fine :)
