Autism

My son’s daycare teacher has concerns that he could be showing early signs of autism and the reason she thinks that is because he is refusing to touch/finish his lunch box. Basically she doesn’t want to feed him and wants him to finish his lunch box independently. Last Monday, she took a video of him showing how disinterested he was in the food and how he was “daydreaming” and not interested in picking up the food. This has never happened before so its not like he doesn’t know how to eat or pick up his food. I feel refusing food at this age is pretty normal but wanted to get other mom’s opinions too. My hubby and I are from India and we come from a culture where we feed kids upto they are five so that’s totally normal to us. My son responds to his name, can sign nursery rhymes, knows colors, fruits and numbers upto 10, loves to pretend and play. He also loves to play with kids and besides the eating part nothing is really concerning about him. Do you think I need to get him tested? I am so worried cause I don’t know who to talk to and my son is a happy, healthy boy who is just a picky eater. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If its on your mind I'd contact your health visitor, at the very least it will put your mind at ease. I contacted mine around 6 months ago as I have my own concerns x

Take him to a doctor. Not saying it is, but daydreaming can be mistaken for partial seizures in young children. If he daydreams often it could be a sign

If my LB is tired he stares, and if he's not hungry, he won't eat 🤔 its a hard one really, but if you're concerned speak to HV

How can a daycare teacher diagnose a child? Is she a professional and even saying she think it’s early sign of autism. Sometimes kids miss there parents or maybe they’re yelled at so is normal to behave a certain way to protect themselves. I had same situation with a daycare l was going crazy worried but later I find out is because of treatment she was getting. I heard teacher yelling on top of her lungs at my 3 yr old that was last day she attended that daycare. They said she doesn’t respond to her name we think she is showing signs of autism bla bla she doesn’t express herself, they just didn’t like my child period. Now she’s in a new daycare she is very happy talking more . So check the daycare well visit anytime unannounced, if you worried then take your child to doctor for further evaluation. How old is your child?

@Lolo omg I can't believe she shouted at your child. I'd be reporting them!
