Baby Led Weaning

I’m really struggling with BLW. My LO is nearly 8 months old and he won’t eat anything other than purées or mashed up food. I preload a spoon and he feeds himself, but I just can’t get him to eat finger foods or proper meals. He just plays with it and drops it on the floor. Does anyone have any tips or advice? I’m so worried he’s not going to pick this up and I know there is a certain window for them to learn this and try lots of food!

We had this early on and I think it was the pressure of us sitting in front of her. If we just put food down and potter round the kitchen or have a conversation ignoring her she tried it. Now she’s an epic self feeder and doesn’t like being spoon fed. You can’t win!

Exactly the same story with us - my LG doesn't like people being in her face, she likes exploring food on her own. I sometimes check in with her to see if she needs any help, other than that I just let her gwiton with it.

We had exactly this early on. It’s like she didn’t like the texture of the food and wouldn’t even acknowledge it was there most the time! We found giving her things like melty sticks really worked though and she soon started picking up finger food! Now she prefers it! Also every baby is different remember ❤️

With BLW we don't offer anything pureed or mashed unless it's meant to be (for example mashed potato) we sit at the table and eat together so she sees us eating the same as her and we model chewing biting etc. Don't get me wrong, my little girl barely actually eats anything, more so exploring, but that's fine. Milk os the main nutrient source until 1 year old x

My LG was a lot like this, before being a mum I never ate breakfast or lunch religiously but now I just have a little something and give her the exact same and sit with her and it helped loads. Then we will all have dinner together when her Dad gets back from work. 🙂
