Taking antibiotics

Can anyone give me any suggestions of how to get them down my son? He’s got a chest infection and has been given them for 3 times a day, the only medicine he will take is calpol! He point blank refuses it, I’ve tried a spoon, calpol syringe and putting drops on his dummy. I’ve tried tilting him back and forcing it in but he just won’t let me, then starts coughing and will bring it up so it defeats the object Any suggestions would really help thanks!

We had the same issue when our LO had tonsillitis. Unfortunately we did have to force her to take it at first. It did involve having to tilt her head back too and squeezing it down her throat, else she would just cough and spit it back up. I don’t think the enlarged tonsils helped with coughing it up so we just did our best! We used a calpol syringe and gave it her in very small amounts down her throat to minimise her discomfort. We felt awful at the time but we knew it was for her own good. Within a few days she became much more willing to swallow it 🙂

I’ve tried yoghurt with success, that would be an option. Or my fella did a distraction technique and did a sniper shot, only works if your lo will swallow lol. We have also forced it but it always ends up worse for us

We’re having the exact same problem at the moment. I have no idea why the antibiotics have to be so disgusting tasting 😵‍💫 We’ve had some success putting it in a bit of fresh orange juice and into a squeeze yoghurt. It is a daily battle though and I would say we end up successfully getting 1 of the 3 doses down here per day 🤦‍♀️ xx

Yoghurt is a great option or a spoon of juice if you do give that to your kid. Or dip a banana in it and let them eat it or any fruit really. All the best
