Give them a toy helps me always so one hand is distracted and you can just switch once youâre done
My kids have a pair of toy nail clippers from a baby doll's accessory set we got at walmart a few years ago. Had a cloth diaper, baby powder, wipes too. They "clip" my nails, each others nails, stuffed animal nails, have even tried getting our cats too (with little success). They now think its fun and try to get me to cut their nails almost daily sometimes.....bonus they also started to come running for diaper changes, dirty clothes, and other messes and have been super excited to see babies and ask if they can help, so they're really excited about their new sibling that's on the way now. Now they usually view nail cutting as something that happens before nail polish, and they love getting their nails painted so I end up doing a little manicure for them. On the days when they aren't excited about nail cutting and it needs to happen I put on the most diatracting show I can find and clip while they watch.
I distract mine with cartoons
Counting, I say let's count to 10 together and we do that for each nail. My son hates it too, but that seems to work for me. My husband doesn't do that...and my son never lets him cut his nails
