Self feeding with spoon

Hey is anyone else baby not interested in using a spoon to feed themselves yet? My 14 month old can hold it but doesn’t seem to want to feed himself. When I’m feeding him things like yoghurts and porridge he sits with his mouth open waiting for me to feed him. Has anyone got any advice on how to get him to start using the spoon himself?

Our 14 month old prefers us to fed her still so I need tips too 🤣

He is fine with feeding himself with his hands but anything like yoghurts or porridge or things like that he just point blank refuses to feed himself with the spoon 😂

My 14 month old is the same. Happy to use his hands for everything else but yogurt or breakfast which is Weetabix or porridge he will wait for us to spoon feed him. He sometimes uses a spoon if we load it and help guide it with him but doesn't want to do it himself yet. It's odd as he has really good fine motor skills but I'm not worried, lots of time for him to get used to it!

My little boy is pretty much the same! Girls this has made me feel so much better thank you!

Oh yeah, our health visitor said it’s closer to 2 that they start to use cutlery. Until then it’s easier and quicker to use their hands haha

To be honest I couldn't deal with the mess of him trying to spoon his breakfast himself so I'm happy to feed him it for now! Nobody needs that much mess first thing in the morning 😂

Apparently they don't master this until 2. Best things to do are keep offering it so they have plenty of opportunity to practice and eat with them as they learn this mostly from copying us!
