If you haven’t already booked your flight I would recommend also being strategic with the timing- you want the ‘long’ leg (ie the 12 / 13 hour flight) to line up with an hour or two before their usual bedtime so they sleep for most of the longest flight and don’t get overtired by being woken in the middle of their nighttime sleep.
Thanks so much @Jacqueline that is really helpful! Our flight leaving Dublin leaves at 2pm, will try to keep him up for the 6hr flight to Dubai, then he will be super tired on the long leg to Melb that hopefully he'll sleep a good chunk of that and Mama can have a wine!!
I've did this just before mine turn 2. Lots of snacks!! Fidget toys, small toys they can take out of containers, own iPad with shows, practice with headphones before if they aren't used to them. Walk around when you can. Colouring, sticking. Remembering the time will pass
Hi there. I’ve done this flight with my March baby a couple of times now. You can order a kids meal but my fussy toddler didn’t like it so I brought ham rolls I made at home, fruit and oat bars so she could snack, plus a cold pasta salad I knew she would eat. Most airlines have good entertainment but I also brought an iPad preloaded with Disney movies and Bluey to be safe. I found it quite hard to get her to sleep with the light and stimulation on the plane so if they will wear and eye mask or eat muffs that would be a good idea. Some airlines allow a Blow up children’s mattress which attaches to the plane seat to make it more comfortable for toddlers to sleep, this is also worth investigating!
