Eating issues
My boy has never really taken to food much even when weaning, he doesn’t have a massive appetite.
We then went through some allergic reactions which involved projectile vomiting and I now wonder whether this has contributed to him absolutely refusing new foods.
It took us so long to progress from purees to solids because he gagged and vomited a lot.
I asked my HV for help, she recommended going to speech and language to check for a tongue tie and then he was rejected for that because they believed his gagging and refusal to eat different textures was ‘behavioural’ and not physical, despite never seeing him face to face. 🤷🏻♀️
We managed to work our way up to 12 months pots and then we started giving him small versions of our dinner alongside foods he’s used to but he just flat out refuses any new foods. He either ignores them completely or has an absolute meltdown if it’s put in front of him.
It’s got to the point where he will only eat Ella’s Kitchen pasta bolognese and nothing else 🫠 he loves breakfast foods, but lunch and dinner just end up being so stressful and he goes without a lot of the time because he refuses to eat anything I put in front of him.
It’s starting to really stress me out and panic me.
He also doesn’t eat at nursery. Although they managed to get him to eat a hummus sandwich despite him never entertaining sandwiches before. But I can’t get him to eat them at home.
We tried cooking with him to show him the ingredients and how it’s made and he just refuses. I tried recreating the pasta pot at home. Point blank refuses despite the fact the pasta is the same shape 😮💨
I am at my wits end with it and worrying that he’s not eating any protein or any fresh fruit and veg. 😭
I just feel like there is no help anywhere for this sort of behaviour. I got told a year ago he would grow out of it but it’s still happening.
honestly, my girl doesn’t eat much either, i’ve told gp, health visitor at appointments & the hospital doctors when we went a&e twice this week. no one seems to be too concerned. have you had him weighed? is he following the same centile? if he is don’t stress yourself. something is better than nothing. keep pushing it at appointments but keep giving things he enjoys. for my girl i know its; boiled eggs without the yolk, mini chicken sausages, rice, pasta, yogurts, baby snacks 12m +. we can’t force them & it is so stressful but as long as he’s eating SOMETHING & keeping hydrated i dont think they seem to care much (so bizarre to me but hey). my girl will drink milk all day long too (full fat or oat, out of a cup).
