Involving LO with food

Hey! Wondered if anyone had started getting LO to help with making meals or food prep or baking. Looking for ideas for stuff to make with my son that is totally safe to eat raw in case he has a munch a long the way and also really simple and easy for an under 2 year old. He doesn't really have much understanding of anything like this as hasn't been involved in kitchen stuff yet but struggling to think up ideas suitable other than the obvious and basic fruit salad type thing. Any help of links appreciated

At present we tend to just chop stuff for our dinner while our 3 are having their dinner (6pm). They usually want to hold /chomp on it so we do veggies in front of them. I've done some baking of gingerbread biscuits and banana flapjacks with all 3 - 21mos in highchairs while 4yo cracks eggs. They all get a stir of the mixture and they like rolling out dough. They do normally have a nibble but it's not been an issue. They also like decorating cookies with e.g. marshmallows, icing, sprinkles etc. I usually put the cookies in a tray and they go to town. Really messy but fun and if they're in their highchairs the mess usually stays in 1 room...

I’ve done baking with my little boy. He did eat a small amount of cake mix but it’s not going to hurt, he really enjoyed decorating them when he got his hands on the icing 😂 I also have him now helping get the cereal from the pantry and bringing it over to be made etc helping him pour in the milk. Got him a tower so he can see what I’m doing

I’ve done baking a few time with my boy (biscuits and muffins) and he always getting involved with food at nursery. It is messy but he loves it, I try to relax about it and just put a bib on him and roll his sleeve up 😂 He also stands at his learning tower and watches us prep dinner just to see what’s going on. He doesn’t like waiting for food to cook though 😂

In the last couple of months my LO has really got into cooking. He runs into the kitchen shouting "cook" whenever I start preparing meals. He helps add ingredients to mixing bowls/pans. Mixes ingredients together, helps spread butter/cream cheese. He particularly likes helping to break eggs & then mixing them with a fork. I just wash his hands when he has touched raw egg. Also making pizza dough & adding toppings. This cook book is really nice for toddlers & categorises the recipes by the skill of the child.

Thank you for the cook book! Hopefully will help inspire me. I have no issue with the mess. Have embraced that with the food throwing anyway 😂 he just has a super short attention span and hates sitting still so wanted to start with quick simple things he doesn't have to wait to cook or anything and hopefully get him interested. He won't even sit still to do painting or arts and craft stuff despite numerous efforts so not sure he will be too bothered about icing things lol but if he can enjoy the food as he goes maybe it will help hold his interest 🤷‍♀️

Get a tower so he’s at kitchen counter height. Our just 2 year old has a kitchen set and asks for his knife and chopping board. He loves slicing his banana! He likes doing pancakes and mixing

My girl loves doing ‘chop chop’. She has a toddler tower so stands in that, has a toddler knife and cuts up fruit or veg. Honestly it’s the only way I can cook dinner these days

I wish I could get a tower. Unfortunately kitchen is just too small and counter space pretty much non existent. Makes it hard enough to do much myself never mind with a toddler lol but was hoping for some stuff we can do in the other room with his table and chairs that we can play and learn and eat as we go to get started
