Balloon induction

I’m booked in for balloon induction on Monday & getting apprehensive! Can anyone advise as to the actual steps? Do you have a monitor on first or do they assess you for dilation first? Just trying to psych myself up 🥹

I had a ballon induction, they put the monitor on first to check how baby was doing, ran for about an hour. Then checked dilation and then put the balloon in and put the water into it. Found the insertion part not too bad at all, had been dreading it. They left me then and I started getting quite uncomfortable- my best description is downward pressure/cramps- I asked for pain relief and was given some. My balloon was put in about 8pm, it fell out itself when I was at the toilet at 1pm the next day, weak contractions started shortly after which slowly intensified over the next few hours, they broke my waters for me about 5pm I think , I then laboured away till I reached 8cm the next morning but unfortunately then didn’t dilate any more and opted for a Caesar. Good luck, don’t panic, you’ll be fine!

I had balloon induction also. Same as above regarding monitoring. I was 1cm dilated and the balloon was placed at around 7pm then removed at 12 the following day. I hadn't dilated past 1.5cm but they managed to break my waters at 1pm then pitocin drip started at 1.30pm. Contractions were strong and regular at 3.30pm and our son arrived by vaginal delivery at 7.07pm

If you are not happy about being induced then raise it. So many women are not listened to. A fought off my induction and had a water birth with gas and air and laboured for a couple of hours. I wouldn’t have got that had I agreed with my first consultant who was so bloody pushy!!!! Good luck can’t help with your question but just wanted to say you got this 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

Thanks ladies!! I’m sooo ready so think I’ll go ahead with induction & baby is measuring big (so they say!) hoping to be dilated enough by tmw that I can skip the balloon 😂🤞
