I've only ever heard it as 2 males surnames, both were beefy guys and a chip shop that was called Briggs

I could see it for a boy but not a girl

it's not a name i would use, but i think it would be okay for a boy. sounds very masculine though, i can't imagine it would suit a girl. makes me think of a big, tough kinda guy. 🤷🏻‍♂️
