It’s my son’s 2nd birthday and we want to go for a meal, does anyone know a nice place to take kids? Don’t mind travelling

A nice place that will accept kids, or a nice place FOR kids? Fazenda in Manchester is good. I think little ones eat free from memory. We generally take our little one anywhere within reason. He’s even been to The Barn at Moor Hall (when we once had money!) Further afield Ye Horns in at Goosnargh is good, as is Freemason at Wiswell. If you want a day out followed by food Blackpool Zoo then the Cartford Inn is a good one. Our favourite restaurant is Bistro Verite in Birkdale. Books up well in advance though and doesn’t have baby changing. We went there for ours 2nd Birthday, but he was the only child.

We like Altrincham market because they have a little play area which keeps our baby entertained! They really should open more baby friendly places!

@Jade it’s interesting how everyone parents differently. Although I do like Alty Market we eat at the tapas opposite Portas? (Duke St Market in Liverpool is good if you like multi vendor food places) We had dinner with friends and they let their child leave the table to play whereas ours doesn’t leave until the meal is over. They get toys at the table before it arrives but that’s it. Just one for the OP to bear in mind on any recommendations. None of our recommendations are ‘for’ children.

@Cal yes, interesting. If I was taking my baby somewhere for his birthday to eat I would take him somewhere that he could also have fun and play. Before dinner, after dinner, during dinner if he wants! 😊

@Jade Totally get this. But for us this would confuse our general expectations of how we expect him to behave in restaurants. So if we were doing something for his birthday we’d go somewhere fun & then dinner. Or just somewhere fun and cook whatever he wanted to eat at home. For his 2nd Birthday we did a morning at Eureka and lunch at Shibden Mill xx
