Georgia Child Support/DCSS Case Limbo & Court Hearing

Does anyone know about the GA Child Support process? I applied for CS in July. We had paternity testing done.. 99.99% probability that he is the father 🙃. I then receive notification in the DCSS app with our court hearing date. It’s optional for me to go, really, but I was encouraged my by case worker to attend, to be able to provide supporting documentation of new child expenses to the judge. I then get another date… then I get a 3rd date… then a 4th date.. this date has the most information and came in a letter with Zoom information for me to log on with, so this must be final. How about yesterday when I checked my mail, I get yet ANOTHER date now? A 5th date.. I call them this morning to ask what’s going on and the case worker cannot seem to tell me why the date keeps changing. She said it looks like there are two. One scheduled for today, and another for December. So I log on for today’s and the judge doesn’t open the meeting. Maybe it was rescheduled instead of there being two? I asked again if the rep could look into what exactly is going on, and she said it’s possible that they could not serve the noncustodial parent in time for the court date. She wasn’t sure though. Has anyone been through this? It’s becoming pretty frustrating to me. The serving piece does sound like it could be right though, because he keeps traveling out of GA.

Yeah. My court date kept changing as well. When I reached out it was because they weren’t able to serve him. Definitely took months, but it happened. I attended both court dates after he was served and then everything was finalized.

Just be patient ! Once they lock in they gone get him ! Keep in mind since he tested and baby is his if he don’t show up all dl will be suspended and passport ! Hell show up when he fuck around and find out

If he’s outta state then is does take longer to get thru the process. But you’re half way there. Hang in there mine was set up before Covid but from others I’ve heard from. The whole system for DFCS is backed up

If he is out of state or travels for work then the case can turn into an interstate child support/child custody cases which can take longer for child support to actually start. A interstate child support case can take 2+ years to start and depending on the judge you may or may not get backdated

@Roshana hey thank you for responding! Something told me to stay on the call and ironically, an hour later, they opened up the Zoom. They have several case participants here & I’m waiting now. Im also in lithonia if you want to connect. I’m going to dm you

@Shemi thank you! It’s been a long process. Luckily I’m not struggling alone, but it’s just nice to know what’s going on 😫

No problem! And yes we can

@Cory I see!! I shouldn’t expect the state to move any faster lol. I hope things didn’t take too long to into place for you!

@Natasha he lives in Georgia and doesn’t travel for work. He’s traveling for leisure lol luckily it’s not an interstate situation. Thank you!

Mine took close Took a year Across state lines. Back in 2018. Yeah the whole system is hurry up and wait process..I was back paid via his tax returns and upped payments to catch up. Then payments back to normal. If they change jobs often or loose job that also makes things difficult. And can delay payments at times. Hang in there. Ga is a moms state and hopefully will get your case figured out soon

can someone tell me how to apply for child support it keeps asking me for an IRN
