The “it’s mine” phase

My toddler is a little over 2 now and really struggles with sharing. Does anyone have any advice? She is an only child, I’m a stay at home mom and not many of my friends have kids yet so that probably doesn’t help. When she’s struggling to share I usually pull her to the side and explain why we need to share, but she just gets so upset and usually shouts “no that’s mine!”

I don't have this problem yet, but I've read that you can demonstrate sharing with your partner and encourage your child to share with you. We always share our food and I have taught my child to give me what he's holding since he often grabs things he shouldn't have (he takes butter knives out of the drawer a lot 😨)

It’s totally developmentally normal! Just keep setting that example for her, like offering to share whatever toy you’re playing with, talking about and demonstrating taking turns, etc. and eventually it won’t be such a big deal. You’re doing great!

Yup. It's no fun, and mine has an older sibling and still doesn't get it. We try to implement "taking turns". She just has to observe, experience, and get out of this phase 😆
